“Come As Your Favourite Animated Character”

Mega Birthday week this week.  Jack Jack and Jelly Bean turned 8 & 10 respectively and Michelangelo 15.  We celebrated the younger two’s birthday with a themed party, “Come as your favourite animated character”.
Jack Jack was Hiccup (How to Train Your Dragon).  His whole outfit was courtesy of op-shop hunting one afternoon, we really hit the ‘motherlode’; green leggings, green velvet top, a brown woolen scarf and a dressing gown, with which a bit of judicious ripping and hemming became a vest.  Fortunately his sister had a pair of boots that fit too.

Jelly Bean of course was Princess Anna from Frozen, our girls’ favourite movie. Wearing an adult size blue velvet dress, another opshop find that day, it required some hemming and tucking to fit. The lighter velvet top was from our dress up box (we have an extensive collection), also adult size so a little tucking and hemming and all set, one of her brother’s suit vests and some black boots and all set.

Bass appeared as Woody (Toy Story), the leather chaps, vest (under the jacket) and pouch were a brilliant find that day.  Easily complemented with jeans, boots, check shirt and hat.
Jem as Mr Incredible, a birthday gift (ebay) from last year, finished off with slipper boots from his brother’s cupboard.

Mary Poppins made an appearance:)  A very helpful ‘nanny’ who with her sister Princess’ help ran the party games, making it a very easy party for me.  Miss Poppins outfit was a little from here and there.  Jacket and boots were her own, skirt and hat from Princess’ cupboard (now my girls can swap clothes!) gloves and scarf from the dress up box (you can buy white gloves from Woolworths, in the glove aisle) and the shirt and umbrella from the op-shop.  It really was a ‘red letter day’.

Our stunner, Queen Elsa (Frozen) with a stunning dress, could hardly believe we were so lucky when we found it in the opshop, blue velvet dress that changes blue tones from top to bottom.  It just needed a little tucking at the shoulders to fit the neck better.  We also found a lovely piece of blue fabric for the cape, she attached it with a brooch of her sister’s and Anna Maria’s shoes too.

Guests appeared as Astrid (How to Train Your Dragon), Woody (Toy Story), Minions (Despicable Me) and Toothless (How To Tame Your Dragon).  They all looked amazing.

A How To Tame Your Dragon cake for JJ and a Brave cake for JB, the Toothless toy on JJ’s cake was made by a very, very talented young friend (we now have a wonderful collection from her!) and Anna Maria created the wonderful Merida complete with bow and arrow on JB’s cake!

The children enjoyed traditional party games, a movie quiz, a treasure hunt with clues hidden in the bush and finished the day with a bow and arrow contest.
A lovely day:)
