Wattle Gum Curriculum Year 2 Maths
The Maths strands in Year 2 are: numbers, algebra, measurement, space and statistics.
- Your child will learn how to recognise and order numbers to 1000.
- To associate collections of Australian coins with their value.
- To perform simple multiplication, addition and subtraction calculations.
- To divide collections and shapes into halves, quarters and eighths.
- Order shapes and objects using informal units.
- Tell time to the quarter-hour and use a calendar to identify the date and the months included in seasons.
- Year 2 is building on prior learning and developing reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Maths understanding involves a few approaches: concrete, pictorial and abstract.
- It is essential to begin with concrete materials in Foundation Maths. Many children will still benefit by using them in Year 2.
- Concrete materials, including manipulatives, board games and more.

- reading living maths books. Maths concepts and skills are integrated within the storylines.
