Wattle Gum Curriculum Year 2 Technology
In Year Two there are two strands: Design and Technology, and Digital Technology.
- This year your child will design and produce at least one designed product of their choice.
- You will look at basic engineering principles and food production.
- Encourage your child with their creative and innovative ideas.
- Use tools and materials to design and complete a finished product and find solutions.
- Their design may involve drawings, diagrams or models.
- Their products may include gardens, animals and ideas from local community sustainability.
- Support your child in being comfortable with digital technology; including computers and phones. Discuss with them privacy and security issues.
- Some families may choose at this age to not have digital technology as part of their child’s learning. This is not an issue. Computer skills are rapidly changing and children pick up computer skills quickly.
- Your child will apply computational thinking. Break a problem into parts and use digital systems to produce simple solutions.
- Most important is to foster your child’s creative and innovative skills. Teach them how to break down problems to find solutions.
- Provide your child with opportunities to identify needs and create solutions. Many technology skills are naturally covered in rich learning environments.
