Wattle Gum Curriculum Year 4 Technology
In Year Four there are two strands: Design and Technology, and Digital Technology.
- This year your child will design and produce at least one designed product of their choice.
- They will look at basic computer principles
- Create a digital solution to a problem.
- Engage in some basic coding
- Create some basic technology projects using some of the books suggested or similar
- Describe food production, it’s selection and healthy food preparation.
- Support your child in being comfortable with digital technology; including computers and phones. Discuss with them privacy and security issues.
- Some families may choose at this age to not have digital technology as part of their child’s learning. This is not an issue. Computer skills are rapidly changing and children pick up computer skills quickly.
- Your child can still apply computational thinking in solving real life problems.
- Most important is to foster your child’s creative and innovative skills. Teach them how to break down problems to find solutions.
- Provide your child with opportunities to identify needs and create solutions. Many technology skills are naturally covered in rich learning environments.
