Launching My Online Database of Australian Books!

I don’t recall ever a time I couldn’t read, a love of words led me naturally to a love of books. I grew up in a home full of books and as a pre-teen it seemed only natural to set up a my own library, pasting envelopes and borrowing cards on many of the books (this was the 80s) and handing out library cards to the neighbourhood children who were eager to join my lending library, at least that was my perception.   I was fortunate to be gifted that childhood library and have added onto it extensively. Many of our books are Australian books, a passion of mine since…

    Preparing Younger Children for Confirmation

In August 2018 Jem and Bass received the Sacrament of Confirmation, at the time the boys were 9 and 7 years old which made Bass the youngest child I’d prepared to receive this Sacrament. Previously Jelly Bean at 9 had been my youngest child for Confirmation and I’d already discovered the need to adjust previously used materials. With both boys being so young I found that some of our previous resources didn’t suit, and I found a couple of new resources I was far happier with. Preparing our children for the reception of their Sacraments is amongst the most precious responsibilities as Catholic parents entrusted to us.  This is…

    9 Children’s Books About Bass & Flinders

Most Australian children know the names of George Bass and Matthew Flinders, great explorers and navigators of the coastline of early Australia. My interest in Bass and Flinders’ explorations has been renewed as I’ve search for children’s historical fiction books about them, what courage and tenacity they had! This book search has been part of my ongoing project of organising Australian history fiction for children into chronological order, a collation of both in print and out of print living books. I have been working my booklist within the framework of the time periods organised in Our Sunburnt Country, a favourite core Australian history books.  I have gathered both picture and chapter books for each chapter, mainly sharing…

I’m excited to share some children’s history fiction books about the Rum Rebellion with you. My passion for Australian history began in my childhood and continues today. I’ve long been collecting books in the Australian history genre and constantly seeking new titles, and let me tell you there are some fantastic new authors on the Australian history fiction scene for children.
