Carpenter recently applied for a job in a local retail store, he was pleased to hear this week that his application has been accepted. He starts next week.

Progress with our diet and the battle against acne at times feels like two steps forward one step back. The simple reality is this takes real work, commitment and no simple solution but a whole regime of products. Lent is a good time to re-commit.

Once again we have struck it lucky at the Convent sales. We picked up three lounge chairs just perfect for the library. The room is now in constant use:) It’s a lovely room to read in.

I’ve just finished reading ‘The Forgotten Garden’ by Kate Merton, an Australian author. She writes exceptionally well, I couldn’t put the book down. But to tell the truth I found the ‘solution of the mystery’ towards the end of the book rather disturbing. I’m not certain whether I’d recommend her or not.

I’m constantly amazed with how well the Term is progressing. We seem to have the right selection of resources, self-discipline is evident and the children are being stretched. Balm to the soul is we are daily enjoying read alouds and picture books.

Part of the success is due to the fact that I am keeping (mostly) on top of the marking. It really helps to keep my ‘finger on the pulse.’ I can easily see where individual children need more help and who is completing their work. I’ve struggled for a long time to mark consistently, two factors have made a difference; I plan to mark daily, rather than weekly, this way I am not overwhelmed, and I have a marking accountability partner🙂

Unexpectedly it appears I have two beginner readers this year. Jelly Bean has simply ‘clicked’ and is flying through her Faith and Freedom P reader, some days she is reading two stories! Jack Jack insists on a daily lesson too and has already mastered a third of the alphabet sounds.
