Homelands and Frontiers
Description
Many people still believe that the colonisation of Australia was achieved without conflict. Few know how bitterly the Aboriginal people resisted the threat to their lifestyle and livelihood.
The British invasion of Australia was not peaceful. It was marked by murder and massacre, trust betrayed and licence taken. The facts are brutal: at least 20,000 Aboriginal men, women and children killed in defence of their homeland – and countless thousands of others dead from introduced diseases and the trauma of dispossession.
