This book tells the story of Kyla Koala, who is experiencing her first bush fire. All her animal friends can run away, but she can’t move fast enough. Will the flames catch up with her?

She finally reaches a small homestead where human ‘Uprights’ have beaten back the fire. A little girl takes care of her, yet she doesn’t understand koalas or know what they eat. The girl wants to keep her as a pet, but Kyla has other ideas.

But when she finally gets back home, things are not what she expected. What will she do now?
