With nearly nearly two decades of homeschooling ‘clocked up,’ we’ve been privileged to have discovered some fantastic resources along the way to suit our family’s learning style. Sharing 10 of our favourites with you, that we highly recommend. *Linking up at Aussie Mums List of 10 over at Live Life With Your Kids. 1. All About Reading I’ve waxed lyrical before about how I love, love, love All About Reading and my love affair with All About Reading continues to grow. All About Reading is a multi-sensory program that emphasises; phonics decoding, fluency and comprehension, each lesson begins with a revision of the previous knowledge learnt and builds on in the next. My Daybook: 9th August, 2016
Outside my window… early every morning I look out my window to see a mob of kangaroos grazing on the new green shoots. Only nineteen days till the end of Winter, can’t wait for Spring to arrive! 🙂 I am thankful… for Our Heavenly Father who can do all things, He truly can. I witnessed a miracle this week and I am in awe! Never again will I underestimate the power of prayer, miracles really happen!! I am thinking… about friendships and how aging maturing is impacting my friendship patterns. A dear friend and I chatted about this recently, we shared how we treasure our friendships deeply, yet also treasure our solitude, our re-charge times,…

Books Read Aloud – June & July, 2016
I’ve only a few read aloud books to share for the past two months, partly because we took a break from reading over the school holidays and partly our list is incomplete due to patchy record keeping. As always we have a two/three books being simultaneously read due to our children’s wide age spread, though there were a few ‘cross over’ of different children sharing in with siblings read alouds the past couple of months. Sharing not only the books we enjoyed but the ones we abandoned as I know I find it useful to hear the ‘full story’ myself. Youngest: 5, 7 & 10 Years Folk of the Faraway…

How We Manage Our Laundry: Large Family Logistics
This is the second of an ongoing series addressing how large family logistics play out in our home in relation to household organisation. If you’ve ever wondered how we manage in any area of household management feel free to ask, either in the comment box or send me an email. 1st Post: How We Daily Keep House Last month we tentatively shared with you how our family ‘Daily Keeps House‘ and were amazed at the interest and encouragement shown, the comments we received here and on facebook and the private emails have motivated us to continue this series. It appears that you do not find chatting about large family logistics…

Walls Are Up!
It is mid winter here, so having no external walls on our kitchen created a strong desire to build the framing and get those walls up ‘post haste’. To this end PC ‘burnt the candles at both ends’ last week, arriving home after work only to turn his hand to building. His ability to create and solve anything as always continues to impress me and I’m always grateful for his talents. When in the midst of a project and your framing gun finally ‘bites the dust’, this of course means you must buy a new one, reporting that PC is most happy with his new gun. (Old gun pictured) The frames were both installed…

An Unimpeded View
The weekend before last we began the next phase of our kitchen renovations. After impatiently patiently waiting for weeks our windows finally arrived. Before installing the windows, the external walls of the kitchen needed to be removed so new wall frames to include the windows could be built. Stripping walls back to their studs in our ‘old’ house is always illuminating and is guaranteed to bring forth plenty of comments about old building code practices and dodgy workmanship, the ‘enthusiasm’ is sufficient enough that even the younger children are conversant in head shaking and mutterings about framing and studs or their lack thereof. Take the window above, no supporting beam, the window sag is now explained. Attention…

‘And The Wall Came Tumblin’ Down’
I haven’t chatted building here for awhile but be assured that progress is happening. We’ve turned our attention to a major project, building our new kitchen. Just imagine me beaming here 🙂 Part of the new kitchen plan is to change from a boxy room layout to an open living plan. Hence six weeks ago this wall came down and what a filthy job it was. Once again it was time to ‘marshall the troops’ to assist in gutting the internals Isn’t it every lads dream to be able to saw, knock down and kick out their walls? Always surprising at how long it takes to dismantle a room and…

Australian Geography Unit
We’re rather excited to be ‘trekking around’ Australia with our Australian Geography Unit. Learning more about our nation and deepen our appreciation of this huge and diverse land we are blessed to live in. Over the past decade and a half we’ve embarked upon many unit studies, previously though our unit studies have centered around history, this time we’re focusing our studies from a geographical perspective. I’m sharing my plans with you in the hope that you may inspired to also explore Australia. I designed these plans to be a ‘template,’ wishing to re-use them for travelling to other continents/countries/states, only needing to give the plans a minor/localised tweaking. We will begin our studies with…

My Daybook: 14th July, 2016
Outside my window… the sun is rising over a frost covered paddock, I’ll grab my camera in a moment and rush outside trying to capture the brilliant colours. This is my routine most mornings but I haven’t yet managed to successfully capture the glory of the sunrise I am thankful… for good health. This month I had a reminder of how hard it is to function without good health when I sustained a running injury and developed Achilles tendinitis. Not only was the pain excruciating, the inability to achieve all I need as a mother and homemaker was frustrating. I hadn’t realised how active I am during the average day…
