    Culling Years of Photos

A few weeks ago our computer warned, “Your space is very low, you only have 10MB left”. Considering our hard drive has the capacity for 500GB something was swallowing up space. Turning to my resident computer expert, he (PC) informed me it was time to cull my photos. I hadn’t culled photos in any consistency at all, well make that never, since the advent of our first digital camera in 2006.  That made for alot of work over the past few weeks, I have literally spent hours and hours, clicking through and deciding what to keep and what not too.  I have deleted thousands of photos. What have I learnt…

    My Daybook: December 8th, 2014

Outside my window… it’s all dark, complete night time dark in the country I am thankful… for my very talented husband who is working ’round the clock’ to finish the bathrooms and laundry in time for Christmas.  I am thankful he is able to ‘turn his hand’ to any task and complete the job well. Tiling and building 4 bathroom cabinets is his current task I am thinking… it’s time I got serious about weight lose and exercise again.  All that weight I lost for the Weddings.. all and more has crept back and settled around my waist Learning all the time… learning in December is all a ‘hard slog’.…

    O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

Today heralds the beginning of a new Church Year, ushered in by the First Sunday of Advent.  Advent is a time of Expectation, a time to Prepare for the Birth of Christ. As with any major event, a little bit of organisation aids tremendously in success.  Inspired by Gae’s Advent/Christmas Bumper Ideas Edition and Jenn’s Prepare Now posts, (posts which I often refer too) I thought to collate our previous plans and celebrations into a semblance of order, as we begin Advent. Our Sunburnt Country – Land Of The Dreamtime

One of the pleasures of blog writing is ‘meeting’ people I would otherwise have never ‘met’. I particularly love when readers email me and we end up striking up a friendship as Sherelle, a regular commenter and emailer from Queensland and I have. When Sherelle emailed me with a request for “ideas for complementary activities/worksheets to go with Our Sunburnt Country – Arthur Baillie,” I was keen to assist and offered to organise a booklist of complementary picture/chapter books. Our Sunburnt Country is one of our favourite core books of Australian history, it covers Australian History from pre-European contact through till the end of World War 2(see pg 7). I have chosen a selection of recommended picture and chapter…

Leaping Into Literature: A Less Intense Week

In some respects our Leaping into Literature focus was a little less intense this week, we read far fewer picture books than last week. Although our focus remained on reading, it was more in the nature of our budding readers reading to me rather than me reading to them. I’m finding the most effective method of ensuring reading progress is to make it a ‘family affair’, our emerging readers and new reader all reading at the same time. Imagine children snuggled up in various cosy spots at the same time, that’s what’s working, the togetherness factor.     Individual Reads: Michelangelo(16) The Tournament at Gorlan (Ranger’s Apprentice – John Flanagan Princess (14) Began a few…

    Reading Goals: 2015

Reading for me is a passion, it’s simply a non-negotiable, some people must eat chocolate, I must read, well I must consume chocolate too;) I learnt to read at the age of four (so my mother informs me) and I’ve devoured print ever since. I’m a fast reader and I’m voracious, reading an average of 200+ books a year. Once upon a time I used to be more choosy in my selections, or at least included some substance with the fluff but for the last few years I’ve, um been reading less substantial matter, so it’s time to give myself some direction to aid in ‘taking it up a notch…

    Jesse Tree in Picture Books

With Advent fast approaching my thoughts are turning toward preparations and celebrations.  It’s been several years since we’ve celebrated with a Jesse Tree, but after reading Ellie’s Jesse Tree in Picture Books I’ve felt re-inspired. Can’t promise we’ll manage making and hanging symbols but readings I can easily manage. Pulling our books off the shelves I realised we have a serious lack of Bible picture books, a situation which I immediately addressed by purchasing a couple of new books for St Nicholas presents;) (included in this list). By no means is this a ‘definitive’ list, Sara’s list and Ellie’s retain that honour, as I know Jenn’s will too (list coming). This list is really…
