He Breathed His Last
Then Jesus crying with a loud voice, said, “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this, He breathed His last. (Luke 23, 46) This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then he took it down and wrapped it in a linen shroud, and laid Him in a rock-hewn tomb, where no one had ever yet been laid. (Luke 23, 52-53)

This is My Body
While they were eating, Jesus took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and giving it to his disciples said, “Take and eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.” Mt 26:26-28

Decorating Easter Eggs
All Lent the children have been looking forward to Holy Week, our traditional time to paint Easter eggs, Monday they began painting. This year Carpenter astounded us with his creativity and artistic passion. The children paint over a number of days in layers of acrylics. Theses two eggs were painted by Princess. My friend Jenn has created a longing to decorate in pysanky style, but we have yet to find any kits in Australia. First the eggs are pierced at either end with a needles, then the yolk and white are blown out. I recently heard of boiling the shells to totally clean, but we haven’t to date. The two eggs at the back were decorated by Michelangelo,…

Preparing for Lent
It was with shock yesterday I realised that Ash Wednesday is next week!! Oh my, time to gather my thoughts and plan our Lent. Of necessity Lent will be simple this year as two weeks after Lent begins our sweet babe joins us:) As I jotted down traditions I realised that we have adopted a number over the years, in keeping with a Simple Lent, we’ll only be adding a few new items. Decorating Our Altar Ash Wednesday our purple cloth will be placed on the family altar, the altar stripped bare save a Pieta statue and crucifix. Family/Individual Sacrifices & Virtues As a family we will choose a Lenten Sacrifice, and we…

April Shower of Photos – Day 9
Tonight is my favourite night of the year. Tonight you just know that there is something far bigger than you could begin to explain. Today though I did try to explain a little of this to my children.

Lenten/Easter Books
During Lent and leading up to Easter we read a lovely collection of books. Every year I add a couple of new titles so we enjoyed some new ones as well as old favourites. I thought I’d share here. The Little Rose of Sharon’ by Nan Gurley is a beautiful story of sacrifice. About a rose who gives up her most prized possession (her lovely petals) to save a baby dove. The illustrations are beautiful. This is a favourite. Another story about continual self-sacrifice, The Giving Tree continually gives to a boy/man who took and took and never appreciated the sacrifices of the tree; the…

Our Holy Week, Easter Celebrations
I know Holy Week was three weeks ago, I’m a little late posting what we got up too. It’s taken me this long to work out how to import photos with my new camera. We took the week off from Academics as we have done for a number of years and used the time to really focus on Holy Week. We began on Monday by making crosses of various kinds. The children were given the task of thinking of various mediums, Koala and Einstein spent a long time making ones of wood, Michaelangelo created the Three Crosses of Calvary from Lego. He also wins the tenacity award as it fell…
