Roofing Continues – Tedious
Last Saturday, PC and I were up before 6am determined to have the fascia boards up in a matter of a few hours. As it happened this was just not meant to be. Not only did attaching the fascia brackets take longer than estimated but PC still had the valleys on the porch to finish. He continually muttered that there was sure to be some secret tradies method that was faster, but not being in the know he had to plod along. The children spent some of the morning fencing with our friend Dave B. in an effort to keep some escapee cattle in. (The cattle belong to Dave) The…

The Roofing Iron Goes On
Progress has slowed way down; by Thursday last week PC was ‘knackered,’ he went back to work for a rest. (He works for council;) On the weekend we finally managed to line the roof with sarking. Having a hip roof has slowed progress down dramatically as PC follows the truss plan. It’s a bit of a learning curve. We still haven’t finished. We did however complete laying iron on one side of the house!!:) (We’re praying we don’t have a storm before the weekend) They (PC and my brother Dominic) also built the front porch on the weekend. Dominic has now left:(:( and PC is continuing building valleys and the…

Trusses Are On:)
Many hands make light work. Before we could start we had to build part of the end verandah for the hip roof. It slowed progress down. By the end of Saturday we had trusses started at both ends all set for a smoother run the next day. By Sunday afternoon trusses are on and it all now looks like a real house:):):) Today’s cutie and another. Monday and Tuesday has been spent attaching the cyclone bracing. Two of the boys left today, thank you for all your help boys, we enjoyed having you.

The Walls Are Finished !
We were up bright and early Thursday morning to start the walls, anxiously keeping one eye on the weather. We had lost Wednesday to rain (So far we’ve had 104mm this last week 4inches for our international cousins). Having the boys help has made an enormous difference to what we otherwise would have achieved. They make a great team. “Thank you boys”:) The final frame clicks in;) By the end of the day the walls were completed! Today’s cutie:) And another just because I couldn’t resist. Friday was spent bracing and plating the walls. The ‘fast jobs’ are always followed by slower work.

The Walls Go Up!!
After lunch the long awaited moment arrived:) It was time for the wall construction to begin. Whilst not quite as easy as lego, pre-made frames certainly made it faster. Great team effort, thank you boys you have made the job so much easier{{}} I’m so excited with it all I have a perpetual grin on my face. I’m trying to restrain myself from leaping too far ahead and planing just how I will lay out our belongings. I just love looking out the window watching it all go up as I’m in the kitchen baking afternoon tea. Just in case your interested they had scones, jam and cream for afternoon…

The Flooring is Finished:)
Today the weather prediction was lots of rain. It rained heavily through the night, but as breakfast came and went and no rain appeared it began to look like we could work after all. The last row along the back of the house had to be laid. The final piece is placed! What a relief. With all the rain the job had become rather drawn out. The next task was to saw off the joist ends. ‘I can go a little faster boys.’ ‘But if we work as a team we just might keep up.’ “I will teach you how it’s done son.” (Thank goodness this ‘Papa Bear’ really knows…

Rain, Rain Go Away
We continued today laying the flooring sheets. The rain is definitely hindering progress. Once again we worked in between the deluges, covering the floor with tarps as the clouds hovered above. The weather was far more co-operative though than yesterday and we had bigger stretches of time. By 8pm the strip along the back of the house was all we had left to complete. Sharing a photo of one of our very cute workers;)

The Boys Have Arrived!
The boys have arrived and we have started laying the flooring. Continual rain though is drastically slowing progress. In between the rains we glued and nailed the sheeting down. Progress is slow though as we have to keep covering the beams and sheets with tarps. Unfortunately rain is predicated for a large part of the week. By the end of day we were nearly half way.
