Best of Brothers
We’re progressing at a great rate with the plastering. The last of the children’s bedrooms, Einstein and Michelangelo’s room was completed on the weekend. The boys were the primary painters of their room. With a bit of help from Big Sis and Mum. Einstein rolled for the first time. He also cut in with colour for the first time and did an incredible job:) Michelangelo discovered a talent for rolling the walls. Finished! Best of Brothers have moved back in, room is looking terrific:)

A Room for Sweet Sisters
We have been hard at work finishing the girls’ room. Generally it takes PC two weekends to plaster a bedroom and to cut and fit the cornices. All set and ready to paint. The Sweet Sisters mix the paint. Big brother Carpenter undercoats the cornices and then paints the ceiling white. Einstein helps cut in with the colours. Carpenter rolls in with the ‘paw paw.’ Finally a room fit for two Sweet Sisters. Who welcome a small brother for a visit.

The North End
We have finally moved the cupboards off the northern verandah, out of the weather where they have been getting damaged. They now reside in our dining room. All rather squishy in there:) The rain gutters on the end of the house are hung, a bigger rain catchment for the tank. The downpipes construction is temporary but very neatly done. Just until we dig another trench on the front side of the house. For now it runs into the back trench. The winter sun is so inviting PC has cancelled all internal jobs and has rearranged the ‘work schedule’ to focus on outside tasks. First up is laying the joists on the…

The Steady, Soaking Rain
…….But then the grey clouds gather, And we can bless again The drumming of an army, The steady, soaking rain……….. (My Country; Dorothea Mackellar) Our latest building focus has been installing guttering onto the front of the house. The boys have been digging trenches under the house each afternoon for the pipe. Even receiving help from the younger boys. With the addition of the downpipes we can nearly hear the rain gurgling into the tank. For the older boys conditions are rather cramped under there, it is a long way to run the pipe. On dark the pipe ends at the tank, just in time! We awoke to hear…

Beginning Building Work Anew
It has been months since we joined the two houses together, and yet we never finished cladding that section. With PC’s CPA studies finally completed, it is time to begin extension work again. With some help from ‘the team’ the front wall was completed in a day. I particularly like how PC managed to continue the boards in a continuous sweeping curve over the angle, instead of meeting with a cut angle. We then moved around to the back section to finish cladding that area. Both sides of the future deck had to be cladded, taking another couple of days to complete. The finished result looks very impressive. (Regards the roof line, the high trusses will…

A Room of His Own
This year Carpenter has been expressing a strong need to have his own study area, complete with a desk. I was determined to help him find ‘his spot’. When my teen expresses a desire to commit to his study, I can’t help but respond. Searching for and rejecting a few spots, I suggested a sunny nook in the guest room. When asked if he would like the room as his own place to study in, Carpenter flippantly rejoined he’d like it as his own room too. Much to his surprise, I agreed. After all diligence to his work deserves a reward. He’d ‘pressed the right buttons’ when he begged for a…

There Were Two Little Boys
Great excitement; the plastering of the ‘small boys’ room was completed last weekend:) I’m rather impressed with PC’s cornices, very neat and snug. It was Einstein’s turn to be the painting apprentice, although Koala rolled the undercoat. PC managed to roll both ceiling and colour coats this weekend! Sunday we moved the boys back in. They are happy to be back in their own space, creating their own worlds.

Bright and Cheery
Koala’s room receives its top coat of plaster and the cornices are in place! The undercoat is rolled on. Cutting begins and then the rolling. Each child is to receive the privilege of painting their own room:) Koala’s bedroom is the first to be completed and she was pleased to move back in:)

Time to Paint!
Finally the time has come to begin painting:) We start in the loungeroom. Many willing helpers, perhaps too many. I confess to being frustrated that I’m not allowed on ladders, being a foreman is not easy. The team pitch in with a will. Ceiling paint goes on. PC applies the final coat, he has done an excellent job. We used Dulux- Paw Paw, which has a lovely warm tone, reminds us of warm sand.
