When Daddy was at work today we…

When Daddy was at work today we pulled up the carpet in the living room:) Won’t he have a surprise when he comes home tonight. We have talked about it for a while and Prince Charming had said that when Jack Jack was walking we could. Well Jack Jack learnt to walk last week and this week the carpet came up. Can you tell we are not carpet people? I wonder what PC will think, I know what I think:) Mind you I do wish the previous owners had bothered to use drop sheets when painting.

    Farm Girl

With the approaching advent of spring we have been working on clearing up paddocks. One of the tasks has been the elimination of the dreaded fireweed. As we drove into the outskirts of town today, Princess gasped with horror, pointed accusingly at a garden of daffodils and asked in an outraged tone, “Mum, is that FIREWEED!”

The Tragical Tale of the Three Bovines

Two weeks ago ushered in ‘Act One’ of the ‘Tragical Tale of the Three Bovines’. One afternoon a fortnight ago the children set out for a walk in the bush and I settled down to some quiet time with the little ones. It wasn’t long before I could hear returning children’s voices, they were raised and calling to me in urgency. I had a premonition it was not good news as they hurried up the paddock. The children had found two dead cattle in the creek, that’s right not one but two! The first had died on the track leading out of the creek, we surmised it may have slipped…

    Bring Back Memories?

One of the wonderful things about having children is having a legitimate reason to once again play with the toys of your childhood. On the weekend Prince Charming, Carpenter and Michealangelo tackled another project on the ‘to do’ list. Building a billycart. PC has toyed with this idea for some time, especially since we have moved to this property. Our friend A, recently suggested his idea of converting a trolley. After careful thought PC worked out how to tackle the project. He purchased a trolley, some wheels and axle. Once the trolley was laid down he drilled a hole in the top/front part and attached the front wheels and axle.…

    Nemo the Possum

Living in the bush has found me with a camera in hand often trying to capture the wildlife. Every morning I only need to look out my windows for fresh ‘subjects’. One day soon I am going to post some pictures. For now though I must share Nemo with you. Nemo lives in our shed, actually to be precise he lives in the roller door of the shed. When we pull down the door we can hear poor Nemo rolling around inside the roller, we suspect that his nest was previously in the gum that came down in the hailstorm the day we moved in. Last night Prince Charming was…

    What we saw when fencing!

Sunday saw us walking the boundary of our property checking for breaks. The cattle adjisted here were looking rather thin and needed more feed. We found a few trees over the fence which then led to some necessary repair work being carried out. The most exciting moment of the afternoon came when we discovered an echidna down a hole I know these are not the best photos as the echidna was rather shy. Further on Carpenter was pretty excited to make a discovery Searching up a log he found an old abandoned wild bees’ honeycomb. He was very careful not to encounter anything dangerous. Best of all the cattle are…

    We have sold our house!!

Praise be to God!! Our house is sold, we accepted an offer today. We are very happy with the offer and pleased to be able to settle and move on. We implored St Joseph to help us this month and I begged him that we could settle on or near his Feast Day. We are grateful for his intercession:) God is good.

    Walking after the Rains

January 20th, 2007 Recently we had several continuous days of rain, after a few days of the rain we had cabin fever. Despite the continuous drizzle we set out for a walk to see the extent of the rain water on the new property… ‘Lilypad’ dam just below the house was overflowing. So full in fact that the fish were being poured out over the dam spill way and down the road… not good for the ruts in the road! Later we had to come back and repair the road as the ruts were getting too deep and causing bad erosion. The creeks were up and moving along at a…

    Glimpses of moving in

January 3rd, 2007 Returning home from swimming lessons we turned off the highway to find a tree over the road. and then as we travelled up the drive our way was blocked by a gum tree down across the driveway. You can see our ‘cabin’ in the background. For ‘this’ we needed a chain saw. I was devastated as this large shady tree in the front yard was one of the attractions of the property. We love the sunsets seen from our ‘dining room’.
