The Advent of the Latin Mass in Our Parish

For the past six years we have been fortunate to have the Latin Mass offered at our annual homeschool camp. Those six years have fostered a love of the Latin Mass in our family. The mystery, the awe, the sense of something not quite tangible. The quietness and the time to pray undisturbed has left a deep impression. With the advent of the Holy Father’s Moto Proprio Summorum Pontificum we prayed that maybe somewhere in our diocese the Latin Mass would be offered. It began to appear however that it wouldn’t anytime too soon. We continued hoping and praying and then we received a phone call! There was a priest…

Rich Ideas for Our Little Ones

A wonderful new blog has appeared First Heralds dedicated to our young children’s Faith formation. I quote their mission statement:Through the grace of the sacrament of marriage, parents receive the responsibility and privilege of evangelizing their children. Parents should initiate their children at an early age into the mysteries of the faith of which they are the “first heralds” for their children. They should associate them from their tenderest years with the life of the Church. Another new blog is Play in Time by dedicated Marianne who is sharing her passion and…

It is best to die after…

It may have been the reflectiveness of Holy Week, it may simply be the way boys minds work but on Holy Thursday I overheard these snippets of a conversation between my boys. “When do you think is the best time to die? I think it would be really good to die in a car crash on your way home from Mass.” “I want to die a Happy Death.” “I think it would be better to come out of Confession and die right then.” “Not straight away, after your Penance is better.” “Oh yes, after you have said your Penance.” Don’t children cut right to the heart of the matter, it…

    Unsung Heroes, My Hero

In days of old men showed their valour by becoming knights and performing extraordinary feats of courage. They were admired and acclaimed far and wide. Many performed these deeds in the name of Our Lord, true and faithful Christians. What feats of courage and daring are there for the modern Christian knight? What can he do to prove his fealty and valour to Our Lord? There are many, many opportunities for today’s knight but he will NOT be admired and acclaimed for these deeds far and wide, but I do pray that he will be in the sphere of his own castle. My own knight and prince, Prince Charming proves…

    Vietnamese Catholics

October 23rd, 2006 For the past few days I have been engrossed in the world and words of Tom Dooley, an American Naval Doctor who gave medical aid to 600,000 Vietnamese refugees in their flee from the Viet Minh in the 1950s. Later Tom dooley set up Medico. ‘Deliver us from Evil’ has really made me stop and think, about the selflessness of Doctors and medical staff in refugee camps. Most of all I have become fascinated by the Vietnamese people and their history. Their tenacity to hold onto their Faith is astounding, the Communists cruelly tortured these people for holding true to the Catholic Faith. 150,000 of Vietnamese’s 200,000…
