    Cleaning Checklists

Every family has their own approach to cleaning, dependent on the home itself and family dynamics. We have tried various methods over the years with varying degreees of success. Our current routinue has been in place for a few years now and works reasonably well, the varying point is the ‘human factor’;) Currently we have divided the house into ‘areas’ and each child over the age of 5 years takes care of their area, their area changes over weekly. *Our 6 year old has me as her ‘assigned helper’. The children also take care of their bedrooms. For some time I haven’t been happy with the standard that some children…

    Liturgical Year Resources – Spreadsheet

A few years ago my friend Anne inspired me when she shared how she had compiled an inventory of her collection of saint books. Anne’s aim was to utilize her library to the fullest with her children. As I could relate to the feeling of owning many wonderful books but knowing they were not being used to their maximum capacity I promptly started my own compilation. I was finding in particular the books with several different chapters of saints were being overlooked. The idea was to know what resources we had for any saint, to read on their Feast Days. For some odd reason I typed our ‘Liturgical Year Resources’…

Planning Liturgical Feasts – July to September

For Mary as she asked: I am in the process of planning out my kindergarten’s academic schedule, this is our first year of home schooling. I am interested in how you are planning out the liturgical year, do you mind sharing your plans? Despite maintaining Faith Filled Days we have not been consist in celebrating Liturgical Feasts for a long time. Reflecting upon My Truths I realised the missing piece of the puzzle, I need to write my plans. Where to start? Where else but Faith Filled Days, all I need is there, it is time to utilise it. With the aid of my ‘liturgical year resources’ spreadsheet that PC…

    Spring Menu

I’ve been rather focused on re-vamping our menu. It’s long needed an overhaul, we are so sick of eating the same meals, bland and boring. I have been in survival mode for so long, but it was time to move on. I don’t know if I can convey my family’s excitement with having new meals! Also PC asked that I cut the monthly food budget by $200, which I did!:) First – organisation. I have many Super Food Ideas Magazines given by a friend, they are very inspiring but were not being used. Focusing on a Spring menu I gathered the spring months’ magazines. I started ripping out family orientated…

Living & Learning Sketch – October

Thanks to my friend Gae for inspiring me to finally organise my thoughts a whole month ahead. and ‘lending’ me her format. The first two weeks of October we will be taking ‘school’ holidays, so life will be a little different. FAITH: The Month of the Most Holy Rosary As two name days occur this month (we celebrate middle and confirmation names too) we are planning to celebrate: – 1st St Therese of the Child Jesus (Princess and my name day) with colouring, a coconut cake and modified punch, this prayer and reading Catholic Treasure Box books and other Feast Day books. – 2nd Feast of the Guardian Angels Celebrating…

    Shopping Monthly

Occasionally we are asked logistical questions about life with a large family, I thought I’d share one of our tips. For the last four years we have been shopping monthly. Let me hasten to assure you that we still visit the green grocer weekly where we purchase, fruit, vegetables, bread and milk; but the supermarkets are visited monthly. Why do we do it? Mainly we save time, to me that is the biggest factor. We also find it more economical. I am not a shopper by nature and love the fact that I only have to go monthly. At first it was like planning a major expedition. But after four…

    One Mammoth Task Completed

Just before Holy Week I caught the bug, the de-clutering, organising flu raging through blogosphere, although in my case it think it is more a case of extreme nesting. Anyhow I decided it was time to organise our shipping container. Unfortunately I didn’t think to take a ‘before’ photo. But to give you some background, when we moved onto this property we moved from a very large home to a very small home. Fitting nine people into a space not much bigger than our holiday cabin has been a challenge. One solution was to purchase a shipping container. It sits out of sight up near the cattle yards and has…

    What Happens When You Juice

The time is drawing nearer, my sister is getting married in a few weeks:) so I have been getting serious about losing weight so as to look my best in my Matron of Honour’s dress. Part of my regime is to juice for breakfast, hence no cereal and no biscuits, cake or bread. I am astounded at how well I feel, how much more energy I have, and how much I have accomplished in one week! Oh and so far I have lost 2kilos and 3cm+ off the waist:) I was sharing this with a friend yesterday and she suggested that perhaps it is not only the juicing but perhaps…
