    Kitchen Takes Shape

The countdown is on as the arrival of our flatpack has been promised for next week, therefore our energies have been firmly on kitchen renovations and making final kitchen choices. ETA: A flat pack is when the cabinet maker draws up the plans and then cuts all the pieces for the kitchen and we then assemble it. All these pieces will arrive flat in packaging, hence a ‘flat pack.’ We’ll save thousands of dollars doing it this way. Once the kitchen’s external walls were up, we turned our attention to the internal walls. We began with measuring and screwing on the ceiling battens. Whilst the battens were going up, my task was to measure, cut…

    Our Library Taking Shape

Building work has continued here over the past few weeks. After gutting much of our ‘old’ house and building new walls, we then turned our attention to building and completing our new library. First we installed the insulation, a necessity in the hot summer months of Australia and also appreciated in the winter. Purchasing insulation by the roll allows us to measure and cut specifically for the differing spaces as you can see on the left. Once the insulation is in, the gyrock/drywall is cut, glued and screwed on. Some of the sheets are so huge it takes help from all to lift and hold in place until the screws are…

    Sheeting the Games Room

Our games room is sure to be the most popular room in the house. A room designed to house the pool table, playstation/wii with screen, board games and a games/card table.  The ideal hang out and a perfect excuse to invite friends over. Finalising the gyprock sheeting in this area brings us a step closer to being able to use this room. Currently it still holds the piles of timber, so we can’t quite move in. The timber piles were a little challenge, however we managed to work around them. For so long this has been a ‘catch all’ for building equipment, it is a welcome change to see clean walls:) Looking…

    Gyprocking The Great Hall

We are racing down the ‘home run’ now!  Last weekend we gyprocked the Great Hall.  Only one more room to finish gyrocking and the whole house will be finished:) First the roof battens have to be screwed down. Then the sheeting goes up on the ceiling. So many times over the last few years we have been very grateful we purchased our own gyrock hoist. Next the insulation is measured, cut and installed. Then time to measure, cut, glue and screw the gyprock into place. Time to brag about how impressed I am with PC’s precision, he never makes a mistake.  Likely because he always measures twice before cutting and…

    Lining Wet Area Rooms

A few days prior to Christmas we took delivery of a truck load of gyprock and wet area sheeting. This was to be our project for PC’s Christmas break, 14 days off and this is what he had to look forward too;) First area to tackle has been the wet area rooms, 5 in total.  We’ve been insulating with a new product, made out of recycled glass, it comes in uncut rolls to be cut into size, this means we have far less wastage and it doesn’t itch. First room to be completed was our ensuite, I am so looking forward to having my own bathroom. The main bathroom was the next…

    Gyprocking Commences!

Over the weekend we began gyprocking the bedrooms. The children contributed with a great team effort. They threaded the battens up through the ceiling cavities. Marking and laying out, they then screwed the battens on. It was rather a time consuming job, meanwhile PC and I began the gyprocking. Each sheet had to be measured and cut and then glued and screwed into place. Prior to this we lined each wall with insulation. Our efforts were concentrated on these three bedrooms. We had hired a gyprock hoist to help with the ceiling sheets, making the job so much easier. Three bedrooms are now completed!! So very exciting:) Stay tuned for…
