Designing My Kitchen – Wanna Help?
The pace is picking up once again on our building work, with the laundry now demolished and the last of the verandah work commencing in preparation for re-roofing the ‘old house,’ it’s time to make several major decisions. Such as Designing our Kitchen. Building is like that, there is always a flow on effect, one job leads to another, one decision means several others now have to be made. Once the verandah is completed, load bearing posts will be erected in preparation for the roof trusses. As the ‘old house’ walls are lower than the ‘new house’ we need to ‘build up’ the walls, while doing that we will replace…

Demolishing the Old Laundry
Finally the big day for which we’d been long working towards arrived, the day to pull down our old laundry, this will be replaced with a verandah, thus wrapping our verandah from one end of the house to the other. There were many eager hands to help with the demolition even the youngest two insisted on being given loads of timber to carry. We began ripping off strips and weather boards on the outside, internally the linings and plumbing hardware were removed, windows were gently taken out with the intent to recycle for another project. Once the inside was gutted the pace picked up, …

Bathroom and Ensuite Completed!!
Our bathroom is completed!:):) Â So very, very happy with how it looks:):) Just love our bath, reminds me of a gravy boat:) There are a few finishing touches needed but the majority of work is done. Ah and the shower, you may just drool a little, I do;) It is semi-frameless, a huge search to find what we wanted. Our towel holders were an epic search, PC was determined to find a hook that would spread the towels to dry but we couldn’t find anything for a bathroom that showers potentially 6-10 people. Can you guess their ‘former life’? Yep wire fruit bowls, they suit the decor and meet…

Ensuite Awaitin’
Over the past year we have been making progress towards having our bathrooms and laundry ‘up and functioning’. In the last few weeks the pace has picked up rapidly and it will soon be a reality!!:):) We began work on our ensuite months ago, PC has worked so hard on all the tiling, I’m immensely proud of him Our feature tiles took some fiddly work to evenly space, but I’m so happy with how they look As I walk into our room I just love looking at our enusite, clean and crisp, it makes me happy:) Actually the ensuite was the first room PC finished, long before…

Yet More Cupboards
PC has been enjoying the satisfaction of building cupboards, and recently created a couple more, completing all built ins for the children’s rooms:) Einstein’s rather happy to have plenty of space. PC has added a new feature, a long shelf across the top, allowing for even more belongings to be stored, which is most helpful when you have two girls sharing space. He is planning to build a second shelf above the first, which will be most appreciated. Very pleased that PC has built these cupboards out of solid materials as I’ve caught a couple of the younger boys climbing the shelves! Our walk in robe is indeed next, the sheeting…

Laundry Completed!
We’ve finished the laundry!!!!:):) Building your house yourselves can be disheartening at times, you spent weeks feeling as if you are getting no-where, then all of a sudden several projects seem to wrap up simultaneously. First the bathroom was completed and now the laundry:) I’m afraid I was a poor photographer for the laundry project, always meaning to run and get the camera, however it is a long way from one end of the house and back again, very lame I know( hang head in shame) Be assured that PC put in many an hour tiling the laundry floor and walls, including a very impressive feature wall where the washer…

Main Bathroom Thus Far
Whilst it’s been ages since I’ve updated you with our extensions, be assured that work has been happening, albeit slowly. We had intended to tile over Christmas, however PC spent the first three months of Bella’s life gazing, goo-ing and gushing about how beautiful she was, as besotted as any first time Dad. So our unplanned babymoon delayed the bathrooms/laundry project. We finally began tiling the wet areas in March, though as we have five areas to tile and a life to live, progress has been spasmodic. First the waterproofer came and waterproofed all the wet areas. Next PC layed the scree with a little help from the Team. Then…

Cupboard Love
In March PC began tiling the bathrooms/laundry, with lots of life happening along the way, and by August he was ready for a break. So he ‘turned his hand’ to projects that could be completed much quicker, such as the built in cupboards. After researching a few options in regards to what materials to build the cupboards with, we settled upon sheet flooring. The attractions were; cost, ease to work with and most importantly strength to withstand any climbing children, remember our linen press? We splurged and bought a tablesaw, making the cutting far easier and precise. PC also designed a template which simplifies and aids accuracy when he routers the grooves. …

Sun Power
Our solar panels were installed today. It was astonishing the speed in which it all occurred. The solar company and the electricians arrived and 3 hours later we were taking full advantage of the power generated by the sun. Our plan now is to become smart solar users, changing habits to ensure electrical appliances run during the daylight hours. Thus maximising solar power and reducing the electrical bill.
