    7 Quick Takes (Vol 54)

1We had an interesting discussion at our table the other night that illustrates if you use rich words your children will absorb.Princess(8) asked to be excused early as she was ‘choreographing a ballet performance’. I said, “No”Michelangelo(11) then says to her, “So ‘Princess’ how was your day.” She replies, “Good”.“Good!” he yelps. “Good is a nebulous word!” 2Why do they know the meaning of nebulous? Because I just don’t allow these non words to be spoken, and to write them is even worse! Words such as ; good, nice, ‘like’, thing, heaps and stuff just set my teeth grinding. 3Following Jen’s enthusiasm for Spelling Wisdom I purchased the program and…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 53)

1We started back with lessons, truly one of our best weeks in a long time, our first day was awesome indeed. Carpenter quipped that normally first day back means Triple Ts; Tears, Tantrums and Traumatisation. Instead it was “totally wicked!” 2After sharing last week I took time to plan for my littles. After family prayers the younger three and I head into the library for Kindy Time, we start with the My Jesus and I Chart, talking about the picture of the day and discussing the lesson. Then using the Little Saints preschool program as a spine we read lots of picture books and maybe enjoy an art project. They’re…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 52)

1Our holidays are drawing to a close. I have achieved so much in the last fortnight surprising myself. There is something eminently satisfying in organising and culling. 2As shared I have been planning. Taking to heart my own reflection – If I don’t plan it is not likely to happen. I finally admit that I really need to write down the liturgical feasts we are planning to celebrate or once again it will not happen. 3This also holds true for plans for my little ones. I keep trying to ‘wing it’ and it is never a success. I know I need to write it down. Angela’s discussion about Planning for…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 51)

1Six weeks ago Koala went for a job interview at our local Tafe library, position was: casual library assistant. She has finally heard back and… she got the job!!Thank you for your prayers. 2 As intended I have spent time in our library on a couple of projects. The first was to re-vamp and make more inviting🙂 The second was to re-begin cataloguing our books, I have nearly completed entering/updating all our Australian collection but my bar scanner has died:( So that project is on hold until I order a replacement. 3Another task I’ve tackled was to type up a detailed job description for the cleaning of each room. This…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 50)

1This week was the last week of Term 2. We spent time doing something a little different for us. The children sat for exams, based on the work covered in the last six months. PC will be marking as I’m too soft, lol. The children assured me it was alot of fun and they’d love to do it again. 2Holidays for most homeschool mums really mean time to catch up on cleaning projects. I have a long list, I’m going to keep a running list on the sidebar as I achieve my goals. Anything for motivation;) 3Not all my holiday projects will be cleaning. One pleasure I’m looking forward to…

    7 Quick Takes Friday(Vol 49)

1Last week PC bought four new computers. Our family tradition is to name computers, generally to reflect their history. Some are named after their givers, we have computers called Uncle Dom and Uncle Chris. In the past we had a couple called Hope and Charity. Charity was given to us, and Hope was “Hope Mum let’s us play” 😉 Well the 4 new additions are now duly named; Merry, Pippin, Frodo and Sam. 2On the weekend I was blessed to find bookcases at a garage sale!! I’m praying that I find a slide at a garage sale this weekend. Our Birthday Week starts next Wednesday (3 birthday’s in the one…

    7 Quick Takes (Vol 48)

1PC has done it again. Results of his CPA exam have just come in and he has received another High Distinction!!! This brings his tally to 3 HDs and 1 Distinction. I am so proud of him:) 2Aussie Book Threads has slowly being receiving a facelift. Gradually I’ve been tidying up pages, adding pictures and links and sorting the Australian information into better order. Still a way to go but I’m feeling good. 3Did you know it’s possible for a 21 month old to pull the touch keys off the laptop? Jem had systematically pulled off one third of the keys before Jack Jack caught him. the keys are not…

    7 Quick Takes (Vol 47)

1 It has been raining intermittently all week and is forecasted for the next few days. The tanks are filling up. For a family of ten I feel we are rather economical with our water consumption. 5 thousand gallons of water will last us six weeks. 2 Monday week we hold our annual homeschool Athletics Carnival. This event has been part of our life for over a decade now and I know how blessed we are. The children compete in track and field events amongst our local homeschool group, and this year we have families coming from three other towns, some as far as a couple of hours away. 3…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 46)

1A couple of weeks ago I shared that Koala had applied for a casual librarian assistant position, and asked for prayers. She has been selected for an interview! Thank you for your prayers. Her interview is next Thursday at 12.20pm so if you could spare some more prayers please, we would be most grateful:) 2This term PC and I have been working in tandem to facilitate the children’s sporting activities. PC was away for a large part of last week due to work. I truly realised this week what a blessing his help has been. I drop the children off, but this week I had to wait in town till…
