7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 162)

1 Thou shalt not touch anything in a man’s shed, better yet, thou shalt not even enter a man’s shed. Every Australian woman knows that ‘All Australian Boys Need a Shed’ and that their shed is sacrosanct.  20 years of marriage and I should know far better by now, but… a couple of weekends ago I decided that PC needed help with cleaning out his shed.   I’m nesting, what can I say.  (I can see my college children reading this, shaking their heads and knowing what came next, “Mum, mum, mum, what were you thinking?!!?) Well yes it wasn’t pretty, and I should, and do, know better. Is it only Australian…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 161)

1 Did you catch my new logo for my frugal living series? Honestly it just cracks me up.  I was casting around for an eye catching look, when the humour in the picture just grabbed me, obviously it doesn’t take much to make me laugh. 2 My stats note that in the last week I’ve had over 1,000 hits from vampirestat and adsensewatchdog. They are referrer spam-bots and the best thing to do is ignore them, never check them out and never link to them, there is a high probability of malware.  Alas my research confirms there is no way to block them on blogger. 3 When I made my…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 160)

1 Last week I participated in Jennifer’s 7 posts in 7 days challenge. Pretty proud that I managed to write 7, though I might have tweaked blogger’s schedule feature and ‘backdated’ a couple of posts;) Whilst I found 7 posts a little too much, I did realise that I could easily ‘step up’ my writing schedule.  In fact I was more economical with my online time as I had a plan.  On a regular basis I could easily manage 3-4 posts a week compared to my current average of 2.  On the other hand I didn’t like to have to write. 2 Yesterday I realised with surprise that Jem will…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 159)

1 Writing an email this week led to a discussion between PC and I; which is more correct to say; a ‘pair of rosary beads’ or a ‘set of rosary beads’? Whilst we had heard the term, pair of rosary beads, logically it seemed the term should be set. A little research and the result is, it is a ‘set of rosary beads’. 2 Rant warning:  Why do I see some many mums carrying newborns casually around the shopping centre, without socks, warm leggings or blankets!!??  These babies are blue with cold, babies run at a different temperature to mama you know!  Perhaps this is all due to wisdom no…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 158)

1 Praise the Lord!  Sarah’s baby boys arrived safely last night!!:):)  That’s right babies, Sarah has two little darlings to love. 2 The day before however Dwija shared that her baby boy has gone home to Heaven.  Please pray for Dwija and her family as they grieve. As Mary shares, life is indeed precious. 3 Our Bass at 2yrs is extremely independent.  He changes his clothes several times a day, creating a huge washload, and is determined to carry his plate of food to the table, pour his food etc.  Very, very determined. 4 Jelly Bean, was keen on cooking pancakes by herself this week, pouring on the batter and…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 157)

1 We’ve been without internet for the past 4 days as our modem died and we had to wait for a replacement.  Interestingly I didn’t really miss the computer.  Thinking I’ll get serious about an ‘internet Sabbath’, which we have implemented in patches, a great idea. 2 PC and I went out for dinner with Anna Maria last week, a pleasure to spend individual time with our girl.  Our plan is to take Carpenter out next week.  A lovely tradition that we have begun with our College teens when they come home. 3 Packed away all my regular clothes this week and unpacked stored maternity clothes.  After realising I had…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 156)

1 Our dear friend Sr Judith passed away this week, so very suddenly.  Sister has been a part of our lives for the past five years since she began teaching our older children Writing Skills.  We are still rather in shock, she will be so sadly missed.  If you could say a prayer for her soul and for all the Sisters of her Community, in particular Sr C, her dearest friend, we would greatly appreciate it. Eternal rest grant unto her oh Lord, and may Perpetual Light Shine Upon her and may her soul rest in peace. Amen. 2 Jack Jack made his First Reconciliation today!!:):)   After all that…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 155)

1 Only 2 days until our College ‘children’ are home for 4 weeks!!!!  We are beyond excited and can’t wait…..!!!!!!!  Earlier in the week we decided to do something special in their honour whilst waiting, so we painted a couple of rooms, and we’ve been cleaning for days.  Now we are waiting, oh so patiently;) 2 Toy sales galore this week, just in time for mega birthday week.  With high hopes the children set off to town today to shop for siblings, only to be disappointed with the plastic, overpriced junk available.  Fortunately for PC and I, we’d done the bulk of our shopping online via gumtree. 3 Last week…

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol 154)

1 Baby Update: Went for another ultrasound this week to see whether the hematoma had grown or shrunk. Amazingly it has gone, completely!! Praise be to God:):):) 2 I’m finding it very hard to motivate myself in many areas, but particularly the children’s studies.  It is only through a hard fought battle with myself daily that we achieve anything. 3 Finally finished reading The Dictionary of 14,000 names and presented my list to PC and the children one night during dinner.  Opinions were stated, some rather strongly, the list was reduced drastically and we now have the final 4, two for boys and two for girls. I love the girls name choices!…
